www.mcnach.com so you wanna know who the hell I am, eh? My guitars, amps, fx etc... Pictures and soundclips. Bands I am or have been involved with Cool guitar-related links Guitar karaoke??? pretend to be on stage with your favourite band - spandex, leather and big hair optional...
I've been collecting guitar backing tracks (full songs, without one or more guitars, either with or without voice) for a while now, from
different sources. I got many from
Guitars101 (see links section above for info), a guitar forum where many regulars turn midi files into
great backing tracks or even make them from scratch. The rest come from magazines, and bought from different sources online and
offline. Look out for Total Accuracy and Jamtrax titles, and also the In Session With and Play Guitar With series. In my opinion the first
two are the best. All provide good tab/musical notation for many songs by different bands.
LickLibrary is a good place to look for these books/CDs (see links section). MusicRoom also has lots of titles to choose from.

You can also make your own backing tracks... No expensive software or tools, using midi and soundfonts. Writing a good midi file is the
most laborious task, but often you can find a midi on the net and alter it as you see fit. I used GuitarPro to modify/create midi tracks,
and SynthFont to turn the resulting midi into decent sounding audio tracks (using freely available soundfonts). There are many ways to
create them, this is just the way I found easiest to start with. At the moment I make my tracks using either Cubase SX or Powertracks
v11 with either SynthFont (VSTi) or LyveSynth Pro (DXi) to take care of the soundfonts, and a great VSTi for the drums: EZ Drummer.
Of course, a real band track sounds better, but this is a pretty good alternative if you can't get a real band recording. The drums,
pianos and keyboards are all very realistic (as long as the midi is good, and Cubase allows you to tweak the midi very easily).
See Guitars101 for a nice & easy tutorial on creating backing tracks.

I am always willing to add good backing tracks to the collection. If you want to trade some,
contact me.

In particular I'd love to get backing tracks (or midi files!) for the following songs:

Chic - Le Freak (Freak out)
Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Thin Lizzy - Black Rose

The following is a list of backing tracks in my collection. I can't provide links to all, as they would take up too much space and I just
don't have the bandwith. But if you want something in particular from the list get in touch.
Note (added on July 2006): BACKING TRACK CDs

While I am happy to email you a couple of backing tracks or whatever, asking for nothing in return, sometimes it
gets busy and many people ask me for things, or they come with a whole list as long as their arm... I do this for
fun, so I hope you forgive me if I take a bit long to reply to your requests.

Prompted by this, I put together some of the best stuff I have and that I am happiest with, and I can mail you a
CD with a colection of these tracks, for just a small price to contribute to my time and the actual CDs, postage
etc.
