In the summer of 2004 I bought a SX guitar. I had never heard of them before, and I bought the guitar online from Germany... the price was very good and it looked great, I just had to try it. It was a GG1JR, a Les Paul style guitar with two P90 pickups. It is an amazing guitar at a ridiculous price. It almost instantly became one of my favourites (read/see more on my gear page here)
I tried to look for info on these guitars, but I haven't been able to find much, other than they are made (very well) in China.
I live in the UK, and I haven't found to date a shop that carries these guitars (with one exception, but they only sell SX acoustics/electroacoustics). I have heard that SX guitars are not uncommon in Ireland, but i haven't been able to verify this for myself, and the only shop I found online only sold their acoustic guitars
At the moment I only know of two online shops in the world selling SX electric guitars (and basses):
1) on German ebay: www.ebay.de The user fatmatblue is a shop dealing mainly with SX guitars. I bought my GG1JR from them and I recommend them.
2) in the US: Rondo Music The prices are really low here and the shop has a pretty good reputation, even with the large shipping cost + tax + vat, it should still be cost-effective to order from them if in the UK, especially at the current dollar/pound exchange rate.
Read reviews of SX guitars in Harmony Central, and at the Rondo Music site.
In January 2005 a new Yahoo group was created for SX guitars (and also Agile and Brice). You can check it here.
In particular, the SX stratocaster model SST57 seems very tasty... |
